Fox Hole Reciever

This project is one that is easy and cheap to make/build. It has also been the base for experiments with other circuits. The Fox Hole Radio is said to have been borne of the trenches of ww1. The soldiers were in dire want of news of the front, of news of home, particularly with the American Expeditionary Force the baseball scores from home. Battery power sets were not allowed as the German radio forces could RDF (Radio Direction Finding) the LO (local Oscillator) in the battery powered sets.

The Fox Hole Radio is nothing more than a Crystal set, it will receive Am radio transmissions, the crystal receiver was the 1st common receiver available to the general public. It also requires no outside or external power source. Which made it ideal for the people of the time to listen to what was the internet of that time. Crystal sets range from quite simple to very elaborate. It mainly depended on the individuals resources and abilities to build.

The very basic components of a Fox Hole / Crystal radio is the base, the tuning coil, the detector, the cats whisker, and a set of Hi-Impedance headphones. The rub here is that the headphones are not really available in todays era, however there are ways around this problem. Which will be covered in a bit.
