The Fair

Today was the sustainability fair in West Plains Mo. Last year I went to the fair and afterward I had a decidedly biased opinion. There were all these people that were wider than they were tall, and all of them telling me that they had the answers to living off grid and to live simply. I wondered how people who are so obese have the nerve to try to scam others. If your living so healthy why are you massively over weight?

Well I went today, and I was loaded, ready to cut legs out from under them. Ironically there were no obese people pedaling their propaganda.

I actually had an enjoyable time talking with several booth owners. The temperature was markedly different than last year. Last year I had to wear a jacket and today I was sweltering in the rather hot temps.

Some things I notice, to many people treat simpler living like a religion, ohhh organics, or ahhh off grid with alternative energy. I suppose there will always be those that make mountains from molehills. It would be nice if they were left on the road side.

Actually there are a lot of people truly interested in simply living. Its not rocket science. It just requires some thought. Some of the questions I heard was which is better tilling or raised beds? Is rain water good for irrigation?

I had to shake my head, hopefully not noticed, and walk on to the next exhibit. I did make some contacts which I plan to follow up on. Oh and the pack of cucumber seeds from Ozark Seed Bank will get planted this evening. You think rainwater is okay for the cukes?
