Getting the most from low cost incubators

I was at a Flea Market in Cabool MO, recently and I noticed quite a lot of egg incubators for sale. Most of them were quite cheap.

I started doing some research into these low buck devices, and found that the temperature regulation is all over the scale. So I was doing more research, it seems that the manufacturer recommends the incubator be kept in a temperature stable room. This is to keep the regulation of the incubator steady. Makes sense. But how many people (that are off-gridders, real homesteaders, small holders) have such a space?

Then the idea of the day slammed me like a WWE smack down, the thing to do is to place the incubator in the brooder. Everyone that has an incubator has a brooder, man talk about so simple, I wonder how many hundreds of dozens of eggs were ruined.

So to try the idea, I enlisted the aid of friends across the country. I told them my thoughts, and off we were on the experiment. I'm very happy to report that there was a nominal lost of eggs to temperature fluctuation, and that was due to a power outage.

So if you have or can get a low cost incubator, set it in your brooder, and start your eggs. 3-4 weeks you should be hatching chicks.

Just remember to run the incubator long enough to get the temp where it needs to be and then stabilized.

So happy hatching
