Great Treatments for Plantar Warts on Feet

By Lisa Smith

The following brief guide should help you treat your plantar warts. Of course, you can still get your physician's input, which is usually the wise way to go. I'm sure you'll feel better if you do.

But before we begin, warts are caused by the human papillomavirus, which infects the upper layers of the skin. It generally penetrates the skin thru tiny cuts or scrapes. Warts are spread through direct skin contact. Another way to get them is by touching something that contains the HPV virus.

If you've already spoken with your physician, then you were probably told that you can begin treating the wart(s) at home. The fastest way to start treating plantar warts is with a non-prescription wart removal product. You shouldn't have any trouble finding these products. As a matter of fact, they're probably sold in your favorite grocery store. Salicylic acid products tend to perform the best, especially as compared to the at home freezing kits, which apparently don't perform as well on over-sized warts. The over-the-counter products are effective most of the time, but they usually take three to four weeks to work.

While popular, natural remedies also take a long time to work. Feet warts are removed with the same home remedies as other kind of warts. For example, you could use duct tape. This remedy is very easy to do. Meaning, it's as simple as applying a small piece of tape on the wart every day.

Finally, physicians can remove warts if you'd prefer not to do so yourself. Two common medical procedures include cryosurgery and electro-surgery. Cryotherapy is mildly painful, but very effective. Although you might have to repeat the treatment. Freezing causes blistering in the affected area. Shortly thereafter, the dead skin tissue simply falls off.
