It's a good idea to purchase grow lights for your plants. You probably have preconceived notions about what people use grow lights for. Any plants grown in an environment that has limited sunshine can benefit from grow lights.

Another option, if you have a big enough area, is to set up a mini greenhouse inside. It's possible to find them pre-assembled and they're small enough to place somewhere out of the way, such as a corner in your front room. If you prefer, you can find plans for a mini greenhouse online and build your own with parts that can be picked up cheaply at second hand stores, garage sales, or Goodwill. You will be able to grow a bigger variety of plants in your apartment if you use a mini greenhouse.

It's even possible to build a custom mini greenhouse especially for a patio or balcony.
